Due to the industrial development in Ogun State, the persistent traffic congestion and increasing human population, Ogun State, being the border state enclaving the densely populated Lagos State has inherited the exploding population of this State as well as problems associated with urban development including the provision of Infrastructures, Transportation, Urban Renewal, Housing etc

In order to ameliorate the problems associated with mass transportation and accommodation within these states, MetroRail Ltd decided that there was a need to provide a fast, easy, safe and comfortable means of transporting residents and people within Ogun State to Lagos State on a daily basis to conduct their businesses thereby creating industrial and residential development along the Lagos-Ibadan, Expressway into Shagamu, Otta, Ibadan and Ogijo.

It has been agreed that deploying a monorail technology with a central station at Berger/Isheri, (the border of Lagos State), which would ultimately continue further up north to Ibadan and down south to Victoria Island, west to Otta and east to Ogijo was pertinent to accommodate the imminent population explosion in Lagos State, thus networking low densely populated areas with high density areas whilst creating additional revenue to both State Governments and the Nation as a whole.

The Parties shall finance the project through funds derived from equity contributions made by both MetroRail Ltd and the Ogun State Government

Planned Routes

The Berger/Isheri Station shall be a Mega Station designed to withstand thousands of human and vehicle traffic on a daily basis. Though the ultimate aim is to network the whole of Ogun State, and create rapid industrialization thereon, Monorail Nigeria proposes the under listed routes for the deployment of the monorail mass transit technology into Ogun State.

PLANNED ROUTE A – Berger/Isheri via, Agbado Sango/Otta

PLANNED ROUTE B – Berger/Isheri through Ibafo, Mowe to Shagamu.

PLANNED ROUTE C – Berger/Isheri to Ogijo (at the border of Ikorodu)
